I also would suggest adding StaBil to the gas then running the engine until
it runs out of gas.

  The basic steps are:
   
  1. Drain the fuel, including the carberator.
  2. Remove the spark plug and add a teaspoon of motor oil or fogging spray.
Pull the starter a few times to distribute the lubricant and replace the
spark plug.
  3. Fog the carberator with fogging spray. Follow the instructions.
  4. Change the lower unit lubricant with the rcommended grease.
  5. Clean and lubricate all linkages and pivot points.
   
  Your owners manual should have instructions specific to your make/model.
   
  It's about a 2 beer job. Not at all hard, but a little messy.
