Scott,

Thank you for the great information. Sounds like I need a new buzzer, do you know where I can get one?

John: Two thoughts: First, there are "idiot lights" on the instrument
pod for oil pressure. If the idiot light for oil pressure comes on when
you activate ignition (but without starting the engine) then the problem
is in your buzzer, since they are wired in parallel. If the idiot light
does not come on then you may have a problem with the oil pressure
sensor, or it could be elsewhere. You can test the sensor by shorting
out its lead to the engine block. If the idiot light or buzzer come on
only when you do this then the sensor is bad. Otherwise the fault is
elsewhere.

Testing the temp alarm sensor isn't quite so easy since it's not
supposed to go on at all unless you are over temp. You can, however,
test the panel circuitry for this alarm by shorting out the sensor on
the engine block. That should set off the alarm.

These comments are based on the Yanmar design. The Yanmar sensors
activate by creating a connection between their input lead and the
engine block. The instrument panel alarms are fed with +12 by the
ignition switch, and completing their ground through the engine block is
what sets them off. Given this design, the oil pressure alarm is
supposed to go off if the engine isn't running but the ignition switch
is on.

By the way, you can trace this fairly easy by looking at the engine
panel wiring diagram in your manual.
