[C320-list] FW: Re: Engine AntiFreeze

On the Yanmar 3GM30 F there are three pet cocks to drain, one high on the
starboard side, one near the oil filter on port, and another port one
further towards the stern. They are diagramed in the engine manual. NOTE:
when I spoke with Mack Boring in the fall before changing my green prestone,
they recommended premixed Dexacool, but that all of the green had to be
washed out with 2-3 flushes before adding. If the Dexacool, which is orange,
mixes with the Green, then it can turn to sludge and destroy your engine. I
used fresh water from a hose to do the flushing since the plain water was
only in the system for a few minutes. The advantage to using the premixed
(for which you pay extra for the water!!) is to avoid having to make a
50%50% mix of distilled water and antifreeze, for which you would need a
large bucket and from which it would be awkward to pour. Both of these are
toxic and have to be disposed of safely, not overboard. My marina took mine.

along these lines-as someone who has never done anything but "top off" the
anti-freeze...how do you drain the anti-freeze on the yanmar engine (is this
the valve with a clear tube)?? and where do you put the anti-freeze while
draining??, and then what do you do with the anti-freeze once removed.....

I use the regular Prestone green...I did recently 'upgrade' the the premix
version, so I don't have to do the hydrometer thing to get the 50/50 mix
right...I change every fall before layup with all other fluids....
