[C320-list] Bottom Paint for Dana Point (was: no subject)

Dick,
I found the spec on Trinidad SR (attached) and it looks like I should be
good for 60 days from painting to launch. As long as the truck does not get
lost on the way it should be in Dana Point in less than a week. Also given
the temp, 90 (and 90% humidity except during the down pours and then I guess
it is 100%), I can recoat after a couple of hours.
I've used Interlux ablative products on our previous boat and I know they do
require you to splash shortly after application.
The key is that the yard down here in Saint Petersburg's is great. They let
do-it-yourselfers have the run of the place and a lay day only costs me $25
day for the boat and another $10 for the mast. Dana Point Ship Yard gave
me a quote of over $300 per day!
I've got a quote of $13 per foot for shrink wrapping which I'm considering,
just incase the driver decides to pelt the boat with rocks. I wonder if
some deet(SP?) will protect the boat from the bugs....:-)

I'm also taking the opportunity to re-bed the chain plates which I do not
think have ever been done since the boat was made in 2000. I found lots of
rust around the welds so it is clear that the bedding failed.

Looks like the cutlass bearing is shot - anyone have any advice or
recommendation on how to get the thing out?

Unfortunately it also look like the strut is lose and I can't find any
information in the manual. Anyone dealt with this issue.

Thanks,
Bruce

I also suggest you paint it only the day before putting it back in the
water. I confirmed this with a leading yard here in San Diego. They ALSO
apply Pettit Trinidad sr. Also he indicated that the boat will have bugs,
rock chips etc. due to the transit. It should be placed in the water within
24 hours of painting.

Cheers,

Why don't you upload the photo to the 320 website? I bet several of us
would like to see it.

Hello Bruce,

We keep our boat in Dana Point also. Our dealer (in Marina del Rey) put
on Pettit Trinidad when our boat was new, back in Nov-2002. We're still
on the original paint but my guess is were getting close to needing
new.  I'm not sure if they used the Trinidad 'SR' or some other version;
sorry I don't have that info. Have you considered waiting to paint
until the boat is here? Something comes to mind in that you want to
splash the boat without leaving the paint exposed to air too long. From
what I'm hearing from my dock neighbors, a bottom paint job will run
about $1000 at Dana.

Have you got a slip yet? If you need any suggestions for service
providers (diver, riggers, canvas, etc) just drop me a note.

Good Luck on your move and hope to hear from you once you're here.

PS, I have a great photo of Dana Point from the air with Catalina Island
in the background. If you'd like a digital copy, let me know and I'll
email it to you directly.

Point, CA we will be giving her a new coat of bottom paint. She currently
is wearing Pettit Trinidad SR. Any recommendations would be much
appreciated? We race a few times a year but like to sail fast even when
cruising and have the bottom cleaned by a diver monthly.
