Orlando,
Cool, did you ever see one of the zinc's that came off the strut? If was eroded then there must be an electrical connection some where.

Hull #112 was delivered to me by the deale (H&S Yachts in Newport Beach, CA) with the strut pre-drilled and a zinc attached so I just continued to do it....

Wes etal,
I do not have a zinc on my strut and did not see a place to affix one. I
suppose it would not be hard to drill and tap a couple of holes, tap them
and install a zinc. That said I'm not sure why you need one. Some builders
bond everything metal that is in the water (through hulls, strut, shaft,
keel...) to a central location including the engine and rigging. My last
boat was that way. We didn't have a zinc on the strut then either as the
conventional wisdom was that it was electrically boded to the shaft and the
zinc's (we always kept two) on the shaft were close enough to keep it
protected.
I just checked on our 320 (hull #671) it would appear that the strut is
electrically isolated and hence does not need a zinc. Is there a connection
that I'm not seeing?
Thanks,
Bruce

Jon,

I always had two on my 320 in So Cal (marina del rey). The strut and the
shaft. I know have one on the prop and one in the water on my 387.

Orlando,

You say you used a zinc on the strut of CL2? Just curious as to why since
it would be an isolated piece of metal? You have me concerned now since I
have never protected the struts on either my 30 or 320....

As for the other questions, our marina has no problem with divers and I
have the diver check and clean the bottom in the middle of the summer.
Never have had an issue with my shaft zinc--it's the prop zinc that I need
to watch.

I used 2 zincs for years, but my diver convinced me to try just one this
season and after about 7 months in the water, it proved to be just
right--just about half gone. I use Godfrey zincs which seem to work much
better than the Canada zincs you find in West.....

Jon Vez
