[C320-list] Ideas for future C320 Regatta a different view

OK, San Francisco shopping tours, charter a bus for wine country, SF
restaurants, etc. would be great but does anyone have that much time
and/or want to spend that much money? Those sort of things would really
up the cost.

:) Crusing coastal Maine isn't too shabby either.. Consider that Casco
bay alone has 365 islands, and that's hardly even a smudge on the Maine
Map. Plus experience the unique joys of 20' tide swings. :)

As I mentioned to Dick Walker, as much as my family would *love* to go
to Australia and NZ, that's only happening for us when we can save both
enough vacation time and money to be able to take a month and do that
trip right. It's pretty unlikely that it would coincide with a C320
event, as great as that would be.

San Francisco is one of my favorite places, since we have family in the
city and up in wine country.

My family's only good for a couple more C320 events at best using the
current annual meeting/regatta recipe, even though they have been very
well organized and lots of fun.

While my wife has fun at these events, they rarely offer much for her
beyond the socializing because she doesn't care so much about the
technical details some of us are so facinated with.

It's somehow becoming less satisfying for us to attend the big annual
sailing association event, spend thousands of dollars in flights,
lodging, food and ground transportation for a 2 or 3 day event with less
than 6 hrs on a boat. The seminars, meals, factory tours, extensive
tech chats with all the great people have all been very well worthwhile
however! My hat's off to those who have organized these events.

I would just suggest that we need to be looking for ways to make the
annual C320 gathering even more fun and useful for everyone attending,
not just those into technical discussions.

Yes, I did.

However, as I wrote on this list a few days after my return, my wife
reminded me when I got home from this year's regatta that at the same
time as the 2008 Regatta (assuming it is at the same time as always) my
daughter will be going off to college. I will have to drive her and her
stuff to wherever and get her set up so it is not feasible for me to do
the 2008 regatta.

I think, as I have previously mentioned a number of times, that the
regatta should be in Sydney Harbour. There are a number of C320's there
and if you want go scenic sailing you can't ask for a better spot,
except maybe Auckland.

At the Coronado regatta Adam indicated that he might arrange a regatta
for 2008 in San Francisco if he had help. I indicated that I would
assist. So we should see if that is still on the schedule.

Having said that I think the bigger issue is what is the function of the
regatta. I have always assumed it was to sail the C-320, learn from
friends how to handle the boat and get ideas about outfitting, have
C-320 technical discussions, etc.

The Board could also set up a charter vacation to BVI or where ever.
Some at Coronado also indicated that they would prefer Australia. I
think there are now a large enough number of boats and owners in Sydney
to handle a regatta.

My 10 cents.

P.S. Where is the 2007 Regatta?

Cheers,
