Indeed I have!   I could not get the rod back into 
the
assembly and had to remove the hatch lid to effect
a suitable repair.

I could not obtain a suitable size of nylon rod 
locally
so used fibreglass rod instead; I drilled each end 
with
2mm holes and keep the rod in place as the hinge pin
with PTFE washers and split pins
