[C320-list] A/C Sizing - Honda Generator

A couple of owners previously stated the Honda EU2000 generator won't run a 12,000 btu A/C. I have an acquaintance who regularly runs his Mermaid Air 12,000 btu A/C with this Honda generator. Recent posts, however, refer to a 12,500 btu A/C so I'm assuming it might be another make with a higher starting amperage requirement. The Honda puts out 16.7 max amps. The Mermaid Air spec calls for starting amperage of 1.8 times running amperage (1.8 x 13.3) or 16.9 amps. Apparently close enough to work. The Mermaid's running amperage of 9.4 amps is well below the Honda's 13.3 running amp rating. I believe he is separately wired to start his seawater cooling pump which draws approx 1 amp. It appears that the combination of the Mermaid Air 12,000 btu A/C and the Honda EU2000 is a viable solution to cooling a C320 at anchor.

Allen, I agree. I have never had a problem maintaining a cool temperature
in any heat with the 12.5K. Several weekends ago we had six adults and one
child on the boat, the temperature was 95 or so and the main cabin was 68
only because I had inadvertently set the thermostat to low. Part of that
may be my installation since I really don't have ducting going specifically
to the vberth but it still manages to keep the vberth cool.
