[C320-list] Log Book Question

For once, I'm going to have to disagree with Jeff. A couple of weeks ago, I
was just heading out on a C&C with a folding prop, when it fell off! We
hadn't even left the marina, so it was a very short tow back. A diver had a
look for it, but the bottom is too muddy for any hope of finding it. So I
think I prefer a folding prop over no prop (for speed).

Same boat a week later, with a new (fixed) prop, just pulling into a slip
bow in, the transmission became stuck in reverse. It's a very disconcerting
feeling as you apply forward power but accelerate backwards away from the
dock, until you twig to what's going on. After a couple of reverse
figure-8s we managed a fairly neat stern-in docking, if I do say so myself.
Of course, the shifter linkage had disconnected from the transmission
control arm, but with a single-lever engine control, it wasn't at all
obvious at the time.

The more we sail on other boats, the more we appreciate our C320!

You're absolutely correct. No prop *would* be better than a folding prop
(for speed). And infinitely better than a fixed prop.

...Unless it's on Adam's boat which makes 9kts under sail in 5kts of wind
with a 3-blade fixed prop and dragging his dinghy behind loaded with cooking
supplies (at night, during dinner). Gawd I wish I had his boat... :)

Well, leave work and go sailing, darn it!!!!!!!!!!!

No prop is better than folding is my new saying.

Thanks Jean-Pierre...for the record I never questioned Adam's math on
this as we can have some fairly strong currents here in New England
(Cape Cod Canal and Woods Hole come to mind) and certainly can
appreciate what the current can do for boat speed--I'm just having fun
with Adam because I'm fairly certain that the 320 that doesn't have the
fixed prop will be faster--including the physics thing around hull speed
:) It's Friday and I'm stuck at work, what can I say....

Regards,

Jon
