  What about 1" track?  I have a nice 10' piece but was uncertain of the strength.    I plan to mount the whisker and/or spinnikar pole on the stanchions.

Machine screws were definitely 1/4 by 20 and fit both tracks.

I went with the 10 foot length mounted about 18 inches from the base of the
mast because I wanted to store the pole on the track. Collapsed pole length
is about 11 feet. One end of the pole remains on the cam car and the other
end latches into a deck mounted piece.

I do not have photos, but check Allan Field's album on the C320 site - he
just may have posted some of his installation. This installation would work
fine for a spinnaker.

Very amusing story to me, only because this happens to me all the time.
The 1-1/4" track takes 1/4-20? I thought they were 5/16-18? 

I bought a 6' piece of 1-1/4" track from West Marine today. I'm not sure
it will be long enough and may take it back and get a longer piece of track.
Do you have much experience with this? Why did you go with 10'?

Do you have any photos of the setup you are planning? My currents plans
are to use a cruising spinnakar but if I'm going to drill and tap and
install mast track I want it to accomodate a symetrical in case future plans
change.

Installed the track.
Went to put the Harken cam car on and guess what - It was made for a "CB"
rail and would not go on since the profile was different.
So back to West Marine and ordered the 10 foot piece of "CB" rail.

Of course, the "CB" rail bolt hole center distance just had to be different
between manufacturers. Drilled and tapped another zillion holes, mounted
the rail, put the cam car on, installed the halyard, and voila - done and
very satisfied.


So, to answer your question about which track - I say that depends on the
rest of your set=up. I personally like the set-up with the Harken spinnaker
cam car and halyard which Allan Field has on Sea Shadow and showed me during
his visit to the Sassafras River. I goofed on buying the wrong track.

I used SS 1/4 inch 20 thread bolts that were 3/4 inch long. For that size
bolt, use a #7 drill, then tap with 1/4-20, apply Tefgel and screw in.
Worked fine.

I drilled and tapped the holes for the appropriate sized flat head
machine screw (as I recall, it was a 5/16" fine thread, 3/4"long
machine screw (NOT a sheet metal screw!!))
