Garhauer is privately held by the Felgenaur (sp?) family, and they
supply a majority of the sail handling equipment for Catalina (Notable
exceptions are the cheek blocks for the Genoa sheets, the Dutchman
system, the winches, and the Roller Furler(s)) . Therefore, I don't
hold any stock in their company, and, as I am located in Holland Mi,
while they are located in California, I'm not an employee.
That you had a problem with their equipment is VERY unusual, and most
people who have delt with them have been impresed with their level of
commitment to keeping the customers happy (for example, they back their
blocks (and most (if not all)) other equipment with a 10 year
guarantee).
In the unlikely event that you get a clunker, Garhauer WILL make it
right. Practical Sailor always rated teh Garhauer equipment highly,
especially for reliability and ruggedness, with the biggest ding being
that the Garhauer stuff is heavier than the Harken or Schaffer
equivalents. I would not hesitate to purchase anything that Garhauer
manufactures fro use in safety critical areas on my boat.
