[C320-list] Overheating Problem

Thanks to all, I had good water flow, strainer and intake were clear, I do run a coolant water mix, I will pull the thermostat and check it seems like it might be the problem. Also thanks for the input to all on the operating temp, I did not notice the overheat temp when the alarm went prior to shutting it off, but it seems like it consistently ran 150, so I won't be concerned if it runs up to 160 or 170. Will post what I find if anything.

 Rick

I think most of the thermostats on these motors are 180F so temp runs +/-
180F typically. But some time ago when talking with the local Yanmar
distributors' service person I remember him mentioning that a 160F
thermostat existed for these motors sounds like you may have one(came up
when I was leaking coolant through the sensor, what a mess). Hence the
+/-160F 150F-170F. Only one way to find out but it's messy and may not be
necessary (remove it and read the markings). But if your running cooler vs
hot > 190F don't know what I'd do if I was in your shoes. Sounds like you
fixed the real problem with the new Impeller.

I have a 3 year old Yanmar 3YGM and had an overheat alarm go off on my first
trip after the winter. I replaced the impeller, no missing vanes. It
seemed to run at normal temp ~ 150 for over an hour. Today I took it out
and had it idling while I dropped sails and put fenders out, and it did not
overheat but the temp went up to about 170. Returned to 150 when I started
moving forward and the RPM went up.

Not sure if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, it has typically run right
at 150 pretty consistently.

 Thanks

 Rick
