[C320-list] Autohelm ST4000+ Low Battery

Darrell:
I had this problem. I removed the display and took it to the local
marine electronics place that services/repairs Raymarine equipment. Their
diagnosis: the card was bad and needed to be replaced. I did so and the
problem disappeared. Actually, I also had a problem with the knot meter and
had to have that card replaced too. This was after Hurricane Ivan. I had
removed the cover for the wheel pedestal to reduce windage - probably a
mistake. About six weeks after the hurricane, I noticed the "low battery"
symptom as I was taking my boat to the closest surviving marina that had an
available slip (50 miles away). I removed the cover and discovered at least
an inch of water standing in the bottom of the instrument pod.
I suggest removing the cover to the instrument pod and reseating all the
electrical connections. If that doesn't work, remove the display/control
unit and have it checked at a reputable repair/service place.
Hope I'm not bearing bad news.
