If the water source is actually in the area of the mast step, the most likely cause is failure of the sealant where the mast wiring cables penetrate the deck.

Mast leak??? I was under the impression that 320 masts are deck-stepped and this meant there is deck material between the mast and compression post. Am I wrong on this? If I'm correct, the water is from some where else.

I, too, had to refinish cabin sole on our #62 this winter because of water in the bilge. For those of you with later models, the earlier models (when???) had plywood soles with teak/holly veneer applied over a series of bilge spaces defined by the stringers or what boat buliders actually call the "floor." The later models have a fiber glass liner on which the sole boards rest. I don't know the details.

Some of the bilge spaces on the older models are drained some are not. When water gets into the undrained spaces, the moisture seeps throught the untreated plywood causing mildew, softening of the holly wood, and staining of the varnish. I don't know where the water under my sole came from. I'm thinking it was not from the mast/compression post.

Anyone have more to add?
