It could be either side, depending on how you have your furler set up. 
If your furler turns counterclockwise when you pull the line to furl the 
sail then you want the cover on the starboard side.  That's how my boat 
is set up and I suspect it's faily common.  But your boat is 
considerably older and I know that some of the early boats have 
completely different furling gear.

What you should really be doing is deciding how you want the line to 
lead into the drum because now is the best time to change that if it 
needs to be changed.
