I have an acquaintance on the west coast of Florida who sails a Gemini 105MC catamaran and uses a Honda eu2000i generator to operate a Mermaid Marine 12,000 btu central A/C unit, cool only. It handles the starting surge although he is set-up to separately start the A/C unit and the cooling water pump. It can be done. In hot, humid climates such as in south Florida, a 16,000 btu unit (which would require two generators paralleled) is usually recommended but 12,000 btu may be adequate for other areas of the country.

Ok lets just end the generator thing now. I had a motor home for 15
years and they require 4K for the 12,000Btu Coleman air. I now have a
hand me down Honda 3500 and it will just barely pull my AC and water
pump besides it is loud. I thought since it was water cooled and
looks much smaller that I could pull it easy, but not good enough to
mess with. Now 3 weeks ago a slip neighbor with a 2000 C320 bought
the 2 Honda's 2000 ui and connector set and it pulls his AC. They are
very quiet and will probably run about 4 hours on a tank. Note he did
install a co2 sensor and it went off the first time he spent the
night, but I don' t know where he had them setting.
