One good thing about sailing and cruising in So Cal is that once we get on the boat, we never use the hatchboards until we get back to the slip and lock it up to go home.

We go to other marinas and to the Isthmus or Cat Harbor and never put the hatchboards back in even at night when we go to bed...no bugs or critters to worry about...

I just bought some beautiful new companionway boards, These have removable
screen/windown and privacy inserts, here is the link.  No more teak
maintance, you can have solid screens for circulation, and windows for
looking out.  They are a starboard with stainless steel within them for
strength and to prevent warping.  Very pleased with them!
