[C320-list] engine cover sound barrier

I installed the West Marine 1" sound barrier in the forward engine cover. I seem to recall from other postings that people had to cut out a small piece. On our boat that doesn't seem necessary. Was this perhaps for the aft install only? Or perhaps for the Yanmar engine? We have the Perkins.
   
  Also, on the catalina320.com website, how do I search these mailing list archives? There are some discussion forums on there, but they seem old.
