[C320-list] Finding Past Postings --Help

Detrick, David (GE Comm Fin) David.Detrick at ge.com
Sat Mar 25 00:06:26 PST 2006

I have been printing off all the interested posts and saving them for the future.

Instead of printing off many 15+ pages email strings and then saving a page or two, is there a way to search by topics for old postings somehow or somewhere on the site?

I'm trying to replace my older autohelm with a new unit. I thought this would be a relatively simple project, but it looks like it is going to be a real pain. The newer (gray) wheeldrive has a larger diameter than the old one and it hits the engine instrument pod when it is centered on the wheel (1998 hull #545). If anyone has installed a new wheeldrive on a 320 with the older instrument pod, I'd like to know how it is done. It looks like there is no choice but to remove the pod a relocate it several inches lower on the binnacle post.

Thanks

Bummer.

I have the parts in hand to make the same replacement. Like you I was looking for a relatively easy time of it. Never seems to work out that way.

Where does the interference occur. The motor or the ring?

I looking to purchase a teak flag staff that fits in the pushpit bracket
(there's that word again!). Presume it's either 1" or 1?" diameter hole.
As my boat is a two-hour trip away, I wondering if anyone can remember the
correct size?

I recently made this switch. Although I had a professional actually do
the job, I did observe and assist. The solution to the problem merely
involves rotating the apparent position of the wheel so that the motor
is on the opposite side. Then no adjustment of the engine pod was required.

On 1995 #182, with the motor mounted to port of the binnacle, I only needed to grind off 1/4" or so from the base of the arm that is screwed into the binnacle post, thereby allowing the arm to engage the motor hole opening in the back of the grey wheelpilot ring.
This model may have a smaller lower instrument pod than your models?

Quentin:

On Proud Mary, the bracket is the same 1" tube that the pushpit is made
from. Therefore, I had to cut down the staff to fit into the tube. I
believe it ended up some where around 3/4". I found that when it got
wet, it would swell up and was impossible to remove, so I had to sand it
down even more.

Where are you getting your official Perkins OEM engine supplies: oil/fuel filters, air filter, pump impellers, injectors, etc. I know about Trans Atlantic Diesel www.tadiesels.com Has anyone dealt with them?

Does anyone know where to buy those Globe Marine blue impellers?

The Jabsco original is a 10-blade model. When I got the boat, it had a 6-blade Globe impeller. It seemed to work fine. Does anyone know how to calculate flow rate for the 10 vs 6 blade model? Is one better than the other?

Defender for many things including ITT Jabsco Impeller # 301969 at $18. Defender called Jabsco and learned that our water pump is no longer available. Please let me know if you find a water pump supplier.
