For one thing, you do not want round line laying around, you can step on it and it will roll under your shoes and it would help you in falling down/going over--webbing is flat and therefore can be stepped on without problem.

Webbing has a much higher breaking strength than Sta-Set...

Best place for a back-up spare halyard is in the lazarette not on deck

Why is webbing used for a jack line? instead of, for example, Sta-set double
braid line which could also serve as a back-up spare halyard? The webbing is
less expensive, but Sta-Set would serve two purposes.
    Just curious about this.
