Adam,

Actually it's a feathering prop as I have heard that they perform much 
better in reverse (than a fixed prop) and can you can adjust the pitch in 
both fwd and reverse independently for maximum efficiciency. And anyway, if 
I wanted to save money I probably wouldn't have a sailboat!

I plan to learn more about optimizing my sail settings, it's just that 
during daysails I don't really have a destination or timetable. I do like to 
maximize my boatspeed when sailing, so I will try some of the tips I've been 
reading about here and in the references.
