Don't forget that in-boom furling allows a full batten main which you don't
get from in-mast.

Yes, that 87 degrees is very important but I just marked the the topping
lift line so it's no bother...

I would much rather put up with the 87 degrees and gain the performance it
brings and you're correct, in case of emergency, the sail can be dropped
straight down...

I have in mast furling.  I've thought in boom would be better; in the
event of a 'furling failure' I thought I could always manually drop the
sail anyhow and secure it to the boom.  With the in mast furling, I'd
have to figure out someway to secure it to the mast...and I'd only be
able to reach so high.  The line below about 87 degrees being critical
for in boom bothers me a bit.  I didn't know it was so fussy.
