[C320-list] exhaust elbow question

Dear Mr. Walker,

??Winter?? In Coronado? Ha! That's a good one!

Heck, *summer* here amounts to 3 mos of bad ice skating. Please ship any
unused *winters* you might have to the east coast. I promise we'll put them
to good use.

Thank you.

The Yanmar book suggests replacement at 600 hours. I will do so this
winter.

Cheers,

Koen

I have a Yanmar diesel and the exhaust elbow became blocked recently. The
mechanic said that he couldn't even put a pencil through the remaining hole.
(Motor didn't run well either! :-) The solution is not to be kind to your
motor. Run it hard from time to time and make it work to clean out the
carbon. Follow the suggestion in your manual for the motor. No need to
replace the elbow, just clean it if you've been too kind to your engine and
there is carbon build up in the elbow.

Hope that helps.

I seem to remember someone mentioning that the exhaust elbows on C320's get
clogged and are recommended to be replaced every so often..
My local mechanic, who will do the very first service on our boat soon (so
we do not have experience either with him or with the engine
service in general), recommends we order the elbow and gasket from Perkins
(I believe tadiesel sells them?) in advance to save time.

Is this a good suggestion? We have purchased the boat used 2 seasons ago, so
I have no idea what the history of this part is.

Thanks for any suggestions,

-Koen
