Jerry,

I hoist up a Shakespeare antenna that I purchased at West Marine using my 
aux halyard.  I rigged a simple holder for it that I've been using for the 
last couple of years.

It's omni directional and has a power amp (12 volts or AC adapter) to 
increase the gain.

If you make it to the Isthmus this weekend, come take a look.
