[C320-list] Commodore Discussion--PLEASE RSVP with your opinions ASAP!

Might be too late to make a difference, but here goes:

I think it's desirable, but not essential for the officers to attend the
regatta for all the reasons expressed. I'm not retired, and barely have time
to get to my kid's activities, let alone contribute as I'd like to this and
a couple of other organizations. If we have people who are willing and
capable, let's not exclude them because their schedules don't allow them to
attend the election. Which, by the way, most of us don't attend either.

Russ,

I strongly concur with the majority opinion expressed so far - physical
attendence at the annual meeting is not a prerequisite for any officer
position including Commodore.

Denny really hit the nail on the head for me in his recent message that all
sorts of modern organizations and businesses in this global economy no
longer make face-to-face the necessity it used to be. And Adam earlier
today with his observation that with 1000+ boats, several hundred members
and 40-80 attendees at any given annual meeting/regatta - limiting the
candidate pool to attendees handicaps the organization and severely limits
the pool of talent.

It shows the quality of your leadership that you are polling the membership
for opinions. I believe that if push comes to shove and if there is
ambiguity in the bylaws, then this is a decision for the current officers to
make as our elected leaders.

I think this issue is an important one and I would like to hear other
people's feeback, I certainly respect Dick, Orlando, and Wes but would like
to hear as many opinions as possible before I leave tmrw morning for San
Diego. Additionally, we have a candidate for Vice Commodore Karl
Miehlenhausen who will be unable to attned the regatta this year and one for
Chief Measurer, Len Krane who is alos unable to attend. Please lets hear
from the group now, TODAY on people's thoughts.

Do not limit the ability of people to volunteer simply because 'you
haven't met them'

Sir Richard,

As one of several Staff Commodores, I just may have an opinion. But, that
said, you are absolutely correct regarding 320 ownership. My comments are
simple. I do not believe you need to be at the regatta to be elected (
by-laws not withstanding). If you limited electable members to only those
that can travel, or are lucky enough to live close to the meeting site you
limit your selection base.

Give it some thought.

It is interesting to note that Orlando and Wes do not any longer have
C-320's.

Also I feel that we should first vote for someone that is at the regatta
that we can meet.

The association has 3 activities, the mainsheet, the web based email and
home page and the regatta.

Hello group,

My name is Mike LaChance and I would like to become the next commodore
for the 320 Association. As Russ says, it's time to give back. I've been
sailing 11 years and have owned "Seychelle", hull 141, for 3 years
sailing her an average 85 days a year (and I
