[C320-list] Another fresh water problem - bad pump?

If you go to the WM site and read the customer reviews, about half give it one star and the other half give it 5 stars. The unhappy customers apparently had early failure of the pressure switch, and, though the company apparently replaced them in a timely fashion, they failed again. One does wonder about those installations. It sounds as if one of the installation problems has been people trying to install them with an accumulator tank which is a no no. I had been thinking about this upgrade anyway just for noise reduction, so now seems to be the perfect excuse.
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, I'm pretty sure we got the Shurflo VSD (I'll check when I get home
tonight). What kind of negative experiences have you read about?
I bought some Whale fittings from Hamilton Marine. Not sure if they still carry
them.

Ken,
Which pump did you buy? I've been reading customer reviews on the Shurflo VSD
and they're either great or awful based on the customer's experience. Also,
where does one buy Whale fittings since West Marine no longer carries them?

Mike,
our pump would start cycling on on its own last season so my first thought was a
leak in the water lines. Some people on this list suggested opening up the pump
and cleaning it. Instead, since I did not like the fact that the pump is
single-speed and makes tons of noise, I purchased a variable-speed pump and
installed it. What a difference! We need to teach our guests to only open up the
faucet slightly and the pump will output enough water while hardly making any
noise. Highly recommended!

List,
Thanks to all who responded to my "no forward so reverse" thread recently. It
turned out as some had suggested that the problem was a very fouled prop with
marine growth that had accumulated in less than 2 mos. I've had the boat in
this location for 3 years and this is the worst growth I've experienced.
Now to the new problem. This weekend my fresh water pump began cycling breifly
about every 20 seconds. I looked at all the whale fittings and they were dry.
I didn't loook down the entire length of the tubing, but I think it's unlikely
to be a failure here. Has anyone had a pump go bad and behave like this? Any
thoughts as always will be appreciated.
Mike
