[C320-list] Emptying Holding tank at sea

Jeff,
I only repeated the instructions that was sent to #851. Didn't question
whether to do anything else.

Thanks for the hot-water tip. We are starting to have some joker valve
problems. I am sure the fresh hot water through the head would help clear
the pipes so to speak.

Hi Irv,

I could be wrong here, but I don't believe that the head intake thru-hull
valve under the head sink is related to the functioning of the macerator
pump. Simply opening the macerator thru-hull in the compartment under the
aft dinette settee and running the pump is all it takes. The macerator
can't suck water in through that thru-hull under any conditions. What you
may be thinking about is the position of the wet/dry switch on the head,
which should be left on Dry. but if your head vent is working properly the
position of this switch doesn't matter.

We run 3-4 gallons of the hottest water available through the head after
it has pumped out, and then pump that out as well to clean the pump and
flush the lines.

If the pump jams, there is a screw at the end of the macerator pump body
that you can fit a stubby flat-blade screwdriver into and manually
turn/wiggle to free the jam. (Obviously, don't turn on the power with a
screwdriver in there....I can't believe I felt the need to say that... :)
But Bill Engvall said to...

You are supposed to close the hwad intake under the head sink.
Then open the macerator thru hull and reverse the procedure when holding
tank is empty.

Don't open the macerator thru hull UNTIL the head intake thruhull is closed.

If it still won't pump there has to be a clog of some type or the macerator
is bad.

Did you open the thru-hull?
