before you decide on any instruments you should really consider the newer concept of WIRELESS instruments--the really neat feature of them is that you can "move" the read-out to the cabin area or even to another location nearby--I have seen this done by a friend of mine. I just replaced-a while back-my stuff with Raymarine and an happy, but the cost of yard help was about $1200.00. I wish I had known enough about the WIRELESS instruments at the time, because I would have installed them---You do have a tube in the mast to run wires, but the mast will probably need to be removed to do the installaton unless you use the WIRELESS type. Don't worry about a hole in the bottom of your boat--there are plenty of them already and they all should have shut-offs, but the speedo and depth are "fixed" installations and should cause no problems. I have been drilling holes in the bottom of my boats since 1974 and none have sunk---YET!!! Ken Cathey, OBUOY #219

instrument?
The boat show is here in Boston tomorrow, and I'd like to purchase a
wind instrument, but I'm a little curious on the installation..
Is there a conduit in the mast where I will be able to easily feed the
wire(s)?
Can this be done with the mast up?
What should the approx. cost be to have this installed by the yard?
The Raymarine wind instrument seems like a safe choice, but I'm also
interested in the newer ultrasonic units as they have no moving parts
and offer more information (like temperature and humidity) like this one

I'm also considering getting the ST60 multi-pack with wind, depth, and
speed.. as I only have depth today.
I'll need to install an through-hull transducer for this and I'm
somewhat scared about drilling a hold in the bottom of my boat.. is this
more or less complicated than I think? Again, does anyone have an idea
on what the cost should be to have this done by the yard?

Thanks!!
