Len,

That is strange, because I was at a meeting given by the owner of Inland 
Marine Diesel who is a Yanmar dealer and he said the newer Yanmar engines 
have glow plugs.  Are you sure yours does not have glow plugs?  They are 
very hard to see and recessed quite a bit into the engine as they do not 
need to be changed.  It would require some significant amount of engine 
disassembly to remove them.
