Well, It may depend on the generation of 3ym that you have.  
Early ones didn't use glow plugs, but the newer 3YM models (I believe) do
have them.  Might have to check the serial numbers.

All that said, Yanmar's tend to start in temps above 60 degrees F regardless
of whether you wait for the glow plugs to time out or not.  My tractor
(yanmar diesel) fires up immediately in the spring/summer/fall, but in the
winter, I need to wait for the glow plug timer to go off first.

Also, I wouldn't put *too* much stock in the owner's manual.  The manuals
may not exactly match your boat/engine, expecially the ones from Catalina as
they're not updated as regularly as the boats change.
