[C320-list] Sail number, Draft and Association

Chris,

I think Karl is correct. According to someone I spoke to at Catalina, they started using the 310 keel at hull #847. Brian's boat should have the older keel with a draft of 4' 10".

You are correct, your sail number/hull number will be 797

Your surveyor did not measure your hull, rather took a shortcut and pulled the specification from some literature or even the Catalina website. Lot of misinformation printed and available on that.

Your draft is 4' 4" and the change to using the 310 wing keel on the 320 from which the shallower draft is derived occurred prior to 2001. I measured mine while on the hard and there are some comparative pictures on the association site which I believe also state when the change occurred. Note; the obvious question of whether the rudder was modifed to match was answered in the affirmative in that discussion as well.

Yesterday I became the owner of a 2001 C320. Can't say much about her as
I have yet to see her and likely won't until April when she is shipped
from the US to Ottawa. I have to thank Dick Walker (who spent time on
the phone discussing ownership) and Dave Moores (who went to the trouble
to speak with me at the 2007 January Toronto Boat Show and also brought
along a DVD of a 'round the lake race in which he participated and did
well) for aiding me in selecting the C320. I'm happy to be here.

These are the first two of what will likely be many issues.

I was expecting the draft to be 4'4''. My survey states the draft to be
4'10''. I know that there was rise and fall in draft over time, but can
someone definitively state when the change back to 4'4'' took place?

Secondly, I would like to join the association before I take possession
of the boat as it will likely pay back the investment as did my
subscription to Practical Sailor before I bought my first boat. The
problem is the information required as part of the application. Never
having seen my sails I cannot supply the sail number. I do have the
surveyor's statement of serial number and I assume that the hull/sail
number is hidden there as it is for my Tanzer. Could someone provide a
breakdown of the meaning of CTYC0797G001? I suspect that I have sail
number 797, but would appreciate confirmation.

  Brian Amirault
  2001 #?
