I second that. I also switch to the Balmar and Max charge. Much better.

Well I changed to the Balmar Alternator and the MAX Charge regulator last
year.  A great improvement.

Years ago people used to modify their 55 amp alternator and get something, I
think, call spa creek or something to manually control their alternator.

MY advise is to bite the bullet and upgrade to the Balmar matched set.
