[C320-list] Closing Seacocks

To address the possibility of accidentally starting the engine with the
coolant seacock closed, we just make a practice of taking the key out of the
ignition and hanging it over the seacock handle whenever we close it. This
also makes the key easy to find.

Best Regards,

Most of us close three seacocks (one in the galley and two in the head under
the sink) when leaving the boat. I leave the engine one open as (a) it a
pain to get to if you have the aft cabin berth made up with fitted mattress
cover, sheets etc., and (b) it's not good if you forget to open it again
before starting the engine. How many of you also close this engine intake
water seacock?

Also the three seacocks are quite stiff to open and close even though there
are "exercised" every time we come to and leave the boat. My first mate
(admiral) really finds these difficult to turn. Is there any way to loosen
them without compromising their safety?

Bill,
No but I'll try that the next time I feel like crawing around on the floor.

Thanks,
Herb
