Mike,
I just repacked mine with a goretex impregnated packing, ( we use this a lot in our pumps at work), and mine doesn't leak. I tightened the nut hand tight and there isn't any noticeable heat.

Mike,

It may depend on the type of packing material used. If they used GFO or
some other modern synthetic, then it may be mostly dripless once it breaks
in. As long as it's not getting hot while motoring, it's quite possibly
doing what it's supposed to.

Might ask the people who installed it whether they used GFO packing or
something similar.

Subject: [C320-list] Stuffing Box

Hey all,

Any ideas what would stop a stuffing box from dripping? The shaft spins
freely and doesn't seem to get hot, but it no longer has that occasional
drip like it used to? The packing is only 3 months old.

  Thanks!

  Mike
