[C320-list] boat graphics pricing

I had decals made up last year when I changed the name. I know it's bad
luck and yes, I landed on the rocks later in the season. For both sides and
transom which included the club name and home port (more colours), you
should pay less than $200.00 (I paid less than that). Of course, the more
colours, the higher the price. Remember: you need to apply lots of water to
your hull so you can "float" the decal in place which allows you time to
position it properly. Apparently the water will not affect the adhesive. I
chose a rectangular logo around my boat name which made it difficult to
align as with a curved bow there will always be a compromise with anything
straight. You're better to choose drop shadow script letters or something
irregular so the curve of the hull is less of an issue.

It's not that hard to put it on yourself. I've used them on my last three
boats. Even if it is not straight the first time you have almost a hour to
apply water again and fix it. I used pencil marks to line thing up. My
letters are not that big about 6" I think it was about $60.00 for both side.
You can try different setup at the website but make sure you call the order
in. JOHN
PS: You can always hire someone to put it on. It took me about a hour a
side. (measure, mark, clean & apply)

I'd like to ask anyone who has gotten vinyl graphics done for their boat
about
pricing.
I had 2 sides done for the 320 last spring, and had a bad time with the
vinyl
place I used (they did a less-than adequate job on the output, and then
"forgot"
to send me the second side and delayed my boat launch and delivery by a
couple
of weeks). They charged me around $325 for the set. I took it off at the end
of
the season and got a refund, and I thought I had a NJ place that could
output
properly but they now seem to be balking at doing a soft drop shadow behind
the
type. (I'm a graphic designer, please bear with me.) I found another place
online that's cross-country in Washington, and they want $490 to do both
sides
(and want me to pay for my own fedex if I insist on seeing sample chips of
the
vinyls.) Is this pricing out of line? It seems expensive to me, but at this
point I don't know what's normal.
The original graphic is here on the site in Moondancer's (admittedly not
very
full yet) photo album.
Thanks!
Susan
p.s. I vote for Mystic, at least then I can drive up for it. We're already
set
to come to the Rendezvous there in August, and school schedules will keep me
from Florida in November.
