Starting in reverse is no problem. Then move to neutral or forward.

On several occasions when I have sailed with the
transmission in reverse I have had a very hard time
moving the gear lever into neutral when going to start
the engine. The transmission seemed to be "stuck" in
reverse. When I started the engine in reverse I could
immediatley move the lever into neutral or forward. It
felt like there was some torque built up in the
transmission while saililng with the transmission in
reverse. Is this common? I have since sailed in
neutral fearing the thing would get "stuck" in gear.
