[C320-list] TV/DVD

Joe

I've just installed a 17" Palsonic with DVD here in Australia. Other brands
are Radio Shack and Teac (Akai) but I am not sure about 19" with a 12 V
power pack. The 17" LCD TVs draw about 4 A from the ship's battery, which
is quite a lot. A 19" TV will draw even more (estimate about (19 / 17)^2 *
4 = 5A) as it's the light source that draws most of the power. We tried a
19" Sansui with DVD but it looked too big for the boat. (It is AC powered.)
I mounted it on the starboard bulkhead and bolted the TV mount through the
bulkhead. Cables run through a 22 mm (7/8") hole drilled through the
bulkhead to the forward cabin. Be careful that you mount the TV so that
there is room to load the DVD!

I also installed a Telefunken DVB-T set top box for standard definition
digital television. This box is little more than the size of a pack of
cigarettes and it is velcro'd to the bulkhead in the forward berth. A small
cable carries the sensor for the remote which I've blue-tacked to the front
of the TV. I bought the Telefunken from e-bay. But ... the specs say that
it should draw 120 mA but it is a lot more than that as it gets too hot to
touch. Oh well, back to the seller ...

I use a Sigtec (or something like that) marine antenna with built in pre-amp
powered from a little box also mounted on the bulkhead.

I also bought a 300 W inverter (A$80 = US$60) which works well. Next job is
to connect the ship's 12 V to the TV, set top box and pre-amp.

The TV works really well either analog or digital.

I am looking for a 19-20 inch flat screen Television/DVD that will operate
off of the ships batteries. Anyone know of Brands and Model of a TV that has
worked for you?

Kirk,
Where did you install the second vent fitting? Did you "T" the line? This
sounds like a serious safety issue that we should encourage all owners to
investigate.

I had to do the same thing with my propane vent line. There was a low spot
which always filled with water, making the vent useless. I installed a
second vent fitting to allow me to straighten out the line.

Another thing to check - Make sure there are no low spots before the
stern exit because if there are, water will pool there and make the vent -

Useless. Just because you can pour water into the propane locker and see
water come out the stern it Does Not mean that the vent is working
because if anywhere along it the tube is filled with water, propane gas -
Will Not - drain out. Just blowing it out once does not cure the problem
either because rain or washing will simply fill the low spot again. This
came up a few years ago on this list and it is a fairly common problem that
I remedied with slight re-routing of mine.

Adam,

After I purchased my boat fall of 2005, I turned on the propane at the tank
to do a leak test. A half-hour later the boat started to smell of propane.
Using soap I discovered the brass Tee fitting (at the top of the tank) has a
crack (which I could only see with a magnifying glass). I replaced it. Next
spring I washed out the propane locker and it would not drain (dust and
spider webs). I now clean this locker a few times a season and make sure
water drains out that vent cap at the Port side of the transom. I was lucky
the boat did not blow up. This drain vent, which is very important, clogs
easily.

Port side, just above the water. It is far below the 110 inlet.

Any chance you meant starboard? If so, it's probably diesel fuel vent.

While pumping out yesterday I got a good look at the boat's stern which
I normally don't see. There was a large amount of rust coming out of
the ventilator cap on the port transom. (I have hull 218.) This is the
same type of vent cap that is used for the head vent.

Does anyone know what the vent on the port transom close to the water
connects to?
