We went to Home Depot.
Bought two rolls of fibergllas screening and some chain.
Took to the boat and opened a hatch all the way, bent the screen into a
trapezoid shape to fit the hatch, sewed the bent screen to the shape, and
the chain to the bottom edge of the shape, and presto, three screenes for
hatches.

For the companionway, another roll of the screen, and three 1/4 inch dowels.
This took a sewing machine that my wife did.
Fit the screen and we hemmed both sides of the screen to just fit the
opening with enough overclearance to the width of the hatchway so as to
cover the opening. Sewed a loop hem to insert a dowell that spanned the
opening to stick out about 2 inches on each side. This we stick over the
pins that the dodger zipper window fastens to at the forward end of the
hatch. Measured to the front/top of the hatch and sewed another loop hem
for a 1/4 inch dowell that just fits the slot that the sliding hatch cover
runs in. Then measured to the bottom of the hatch opening and another loop
loop hem with a dowell that is just wide enough to hang over the hatch step
between the cockpit settees.
The hatch cover will slide almost to the end of its track. Just lift the
bottom dowell and flip it back to enter or leave the hatch. When done, just
put the three dowells together and roll it up.

Hope it makes sense.
Never took any pictures because its so simple.

Jordan at Glebe Creek makes a beautiful screen. Not cheap but a true work
of art. We have his on the fore, mid, main, aft cabin, and head hatches.
Unfortunately, he has not quite figured out how to make a screen that will
fit the port lights, at least as of the last Annapolis Boat Show.

Anybody know of good bug netting solutions (commercial or homebrew) for
the main cabin and V berth hatches? We're cruising Maine for two weeks
in late July/early August and don't want to become insect food.
