Diesels don't like to be run not in gear. So if at anchor, not a good
option.

Based on your intended purpose at a dock without shore power, I would
recommend the Honda 2000 for both quietness and power capacity.
Should be adequate watts for anything except an AC.
You will need a 110V to shore power inlet cord. Either buy one made up or
"do-it-yourself" if you feel comfortable and confident to make one yourself
from component parts. Boat inlet is 30amp , three prong.
