No. They reconsidered that and kept it free, The lists that I stayed on have
gone inactive for all practical purposes, so I unsubscribed from the
website, removed all sailnet addresses from my address book and the
'unsubscribe' messages have stopped.

I am pretty sure it was some kind of a phishing attempt. I suspect that it
was either a direct fish where the link was not to the real sailnet site or
maybe it was intended attract the curious to try the hyperlinks within the
message. I never trusted the links and unsubscribed fom within sailnet.
