[C320-list] Charleston Spar in mast furling difficulty

We are very much enjoying our Catalina 320. Lisa and
I have been out over a dozen times since getting
"Chrysalis" in late August.

One major problem we're having is with the in-mast
furling system. It works, but seems to take an
unnatural amount of effort (winching, with handle) to
set and furl the sail. I've reviewed posts, and have
a slightly acute angle with the mast so the foot
overlaps, but it is still a real bear. The very top
of the sail seems to lag in the mast, so it may be
"candycaned" but how do I fix this?

This problem has been part of the boat's history, as
the furling line is very stressed, and will be
replaced at the end of the season.

I've called Charleston Spar, but they're at the boat
show... We're taking off for a cruise over this long
weekend, and I'd love to fix it before then. Any
suggestions for where to start troubleshooting are
appreciated.
