[C320-list] flyback 20 charger

I have a 2002 C320 and one of my wet cells batteries went down last fall.
One of the problems was the fuse was blown on the positive wire from the
dead battery that
connects to the charger. It was difficult to find the same type
of fuse at the auto or electronics stores, so I ordered a few from
Fusesunlimited.com.

You can use a VOM to check the continuity on the fuses to see if any are
blown and replace if necessary. An alternative, if you don't have a VOM is
to check the
panel voltage gauge with the charger on to see if any of the batteries
are being charged (13+ volts on the gauge) or look at the amp gauge on the
charger to see if there is any charger activity. If there is charger
activity, then switch
the fuse from the good battery (assuming it has not also blown) to the bad
battery. Then turn
on the charger and see if the voltage gauge for this battery shows activity
in the 13+ volt range. If there is activity you have a blown fuse, if not
then probably have either a battery that is
shorted internally and cannot accept a charge or that circuit from the
charger is bad.

If you turn off the charger, fire up the engine and separately select each
battery you can also see if they are accepting charges (13+ volts on the
panel voltage gauge). This assumes the alternator is working. If each one
is then you probably have a charger problem as the fuses only protect the
connection between the battery and the charger.

The wiring schematics are in the 320 owner's manual.

ProMariner who makes the Flyback has a fairly liberal discount replacement
policy for out of warranty chargers. Also, they have a number of what
appear to be more modern designs on their web site. I don't know if anyone
on the list has experience with the newer versions.
