Good question and one I'll look at next time down on the boat.  If LEDs get toomuch current they will over heat the junction and die early.  Usually they need no more than 20 20 ma amd maybe even less in this situation since it is down below.  Then it should last for the life of the boat.

With one short phone call, Seaward sent me one for free for my C270.
Question though, why the heck does an LED burn out so quickly? They should
last a decade.

Yes.  
We did it a few years back. 
Bought one at Radio Shack. 
Stripped the Radio Shack surrounding bezel and reused the bezel of the
original bulb.  
If I remember correctly it just pushed out of and into to the panel.

Has anyone replaced the small LED panel light under the battery
switch......it is the indicator light for when the service is on or
off.....I believe Seaward Products makes it. Thanks.
