Ala Jeff's list: #4)  I had a similar problem and experienced success with a product called Liquid LifeCalk.  Apparently, it's the same polysulfide formula in regular LifeCalk I've used for rebeding chain plates only in a more runny form.  It flows like maple syrup, works it's way into spaces you couldn't well calk.  It's over two years now so I guess it worked.
