Bruce,
My original note to Globe on this problem was 31 May. It took several follow-up notes to find out the results of their investigation. Mr. Koenig agreed to replace the impeller in an email of 13 July and I received 2 of them on 4 September after I sent 2 reminders with my home address.
Mr. Koenig claims all distributors were notified of the recall, but from the reply I got from Cassy at Defender, I'm not sure that they had checked their remaining stock. I bet Defender will replace your two units. They actually forwarded my C320 posting on to Globe (I had cc'd Cassy) and I heard back from Mr. Koenig immediately wanting to make sure that I was "whole".

Subject: [C320-list] Globe Impeller Problem
Karl, Interesting. I purchased two Globe Model 418's from Defender a couple ofmonths ago and basically got the run around from Mr. Koenig telling me I wasmistaken. After several e-mails I gave up, used a Yanmar replacement, andwas planning to discuss with the local Globe distributor. Maybe he finallyrealized there really was a problem on their end. . Thanks for the heads-up.Bruce StumppAdventure, #647Frog Mortar Creek, MDMessage: 7Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2007 16:14:56 -0400 (EDT)From: "Karl Mielenhausen _/) " <kmielen at iwon.com>Subject: [C320-list] Globe Impeller ProblemTo: C320-List at catalina320.comCc: CustServ at defender.comMessage-ID: <20070904201456.0FAD087356 at email.iwon.com>Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"Attention:The last 2 times I replaced the water pump impeller in my Yanmar 3GM30F(Japan version), I've used the Globe (Model 418). Globe impellers arereportedly made of elastomer compounds, developed for optimum performanceand self-lubricating for run-dry
protection. Additionally, Globe impellersare said to have greater resistance to sand and dirt abrasion. My water pump shaft requires a 3/16" keyway and the Globe 418 impeller seemto fit OK in the past. The last one I purchased (from Defender) only had a1/8" keyway, however, and did not fit.I contacted Globe via their website and received a reply from Matthew W.Koenig, Business Manager, Marine Products Division. After someinvestigation, he confirmed that the 418 should have had a 3/16" keyway, notthe 1/8" that I had. He has sent me 2 replacements at no charge. The bottomline is that if you have one of these in your 'spares' box, you'dbetter check the dimensions, before you need to install it.
