[C320-list] Anchor Winch and chain

I've been looking into changing my Maxwell anchor winch from rope only to rope and chain. I know some people have already done this and there is an excellent write up from a couple of years or so ago.   However Maxwell advise me that it is for a maximum chain size of 6mm (  1/4 inch)  whereas my chain size is 8mm  (5/16).
   I'd appreciate any comments but particularly from anyone  who has done this conversion
