Truly brilliant. You saved me a ton of money and effort. Worth the
dues for the entire year and then some. I owe you many a beer.

Frank, your suggested fix was spot on. A handsome, intelligent,
wonderful genius are you.

When we went to start the engine to see if the fix worked the engine
wouldn't start. We presumed that in the repair we had knocked a wire
loose. No such luck and when we pushed the starter button again it went
in and never came back out.

A $19.00 new starter switch ($17.00 at Defender but I wanted it now) at
West Marine was bought and installed and we sailed 55.4 miles in 10
hours and 25 minutes. However, for those of you with hull numbers
around 218 you might just want to do so preventive replacement or at
least have a spare switch ready on board. I would rather have a motor
you can't stop then one you can't start.

Very perceptive Adam. I'll take any compliment I can get!

Most of the slack came from behind the aft bulkhead of the aft cabin.
There were some rather large radius bends that could be pulled a little
tighter. I think I also got some slack from inside the tunnel where the
shaft log and shaft are.

You might want to remove hangers or tie wraps that currently secure the
cable, see if you can make it fit and then secure the cable in the new
position.

If it was absolutely necessary I was thinking about trying to just
replace the core using the old sheath so I wouldn't have to rerun the
entire thing.

Larry, you are a genius. Thank you very much for the wonderful
suggestion. We took a look at it last weekend and it looks like with a
couple of hours of work we can do what you did. We didn't attempt it
then because there was wind and we just shut the thing off manually.

Where did you find the slack in the existing cable?

Warmest Thankful Regards,

Adam

Adam,

Same thing happen to me. It was evident that there was some type of
defect where it broke as there was corrosion - but no reason for it
because it was well inside the cover. I was able to find enough slack
in the existing cable to pull it forward, clean up the engine end of the
cable and reconnect. I originally did this so I could use the boat the
next day, but it is working so well I don't see any need to change it.

Well, although I do like my two bladed fixed prop I do have issues
sailing with the engine on. Yesterday I pulled up on the fuel cut off
and nothing happened. We opened the engine compartment to find that the
cable broke about two inches from its connection to the engine.

Anyone replaced the cable, and if so where did you get the cable and any
installation issues?

Adam
