Jeff,

Your description sounds good enough. Do you know if this is this how
Catalina installs them as original equipment now? It does represent a more
closed system method that I may consider doing at some point.

Thanks,

Chris,

The fitting exits the pressure side of the heat exchanger so there is a bit
of seawater flowing thru the hose. I don't see how that would present a
problem. The positive pressure prevents any air from accumulating in the
seal, and the very small diameter of the barbed fitting prevents any
significant volume of water from being diverted from the cooling system. The
technician at my CY dealer suggested that I plumb the PSS this way. He said
that CY supplied a similar kit for some models after they had a problem with
the way they originally vented the seal when they started installing them as
standard equipment.

  Jeff,

That's an elegant solution but are you sure there isn't any positive
pressure in the heat exhanger that would force cooling water back thru the
PSS? Not sure it would matter but it might be a concern. I simply routed
and
clamped a piece of 3/8" plastic tubing from the PSS barb to just below the
underside of the aft engine cover. It's several inches above the water
line,
near the center of the boat and I've never seen any evidence that water
  comes out of it.

  Joe,

I removed the drain petcock at the aft end of the exhaust manifold heat
exchanger and replaced it with a brass barbed fitting. A hose connects
that
to the barbed fitting on the PSS. The hole in the heat exchanger has
metric
threads that are not quite identical to 1/4" NPT so I ran a 1/4" NPT tap
thru them (I think it was 1/4", but it was a few years ago) and then the
  barbed fitting threaded correctly.

Here is a pic from the 320 site:

  Good luck,

I recently installed the replacement to the PYI PSS shaft seal that is
vented. It requires that the vent hose be installed 2 ft above the
watereline. It is not obvious to me where I can run the vent hose to
  achieve
the necessary height. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
