[C320-list] Catalina Port List

Those that attended the Regatta in Annapolis had the opportunity to hear a
rigger talk about tuning the rig and answer questions. One point he made is
in truing the mast (setting it in-column,) consider that the halyard you use
to measure distance to port and starboard is slightly off-center at the top
of the mast. He suggested that about one inch be added to the longer run to
account for the mast-head offset.

I did this in the Spring in hopes of reducing some of the port list. It may
in-fact have helped; but, the list is still there. Hey, it's only a boat. At
least it floats and doesn't leak. If the Admiral and I stand on the
starboard rail, no more port list.

Gary,

For what it's worth, my port list seems to have been significantly reduced
and/or disappeared since I replaced the two 4D batteries with AGMs (slightly
heavier) and added a group 27 starting battery just fwd on the two 4Ds. Like
Orlando says, it was never really an issue anyway, although it seems that I
actually got slightly higher speed on a port tack when I had the list. Like
having extra weight on the port rail perhaps?

You're traveling companions don't know what they're talking about...yes, the
boat has a port list but not a big deal....it doesn't effect performance at
all....it's a list, nothing else...

Don't worry about, enjoy your boat!

I would get other friends... :)

I think I have seen several tongue-in-cheek comments here in the past about
the port list on the 320. But having just come back from a two week trip to
Isle Royale, My traveling companions are all convinced there is something
seriously wrong with my boat. With the two 4D batteries, holding tank, fuel
tank, and water tank all on the starboard side, can someone re-explain the
port list?

Thanks,
