[C320-list] NavPod Instrument Housing

I honestly don't believe it's possible to do that unless you go with a
wireless model. At the base of the mast there's a tube that extends up from
the compression post that is typically plugged with some sealant. At any
rate, getting wires feed through that with the mast up would be very very
difficult.

Unstepping the mast is really not a big deal but you need a crane with a
sling.

With the Crane in place, remove the 8 cotter pins from the turn buckles on
*either* the port or starboard side shrouds and loosen all of those
turnbuckles the same number of turns until the shrouds go a bit slack. Keep
count of the turns. Leave the turnbuckles on the other side of the boat
alone.

With the crane supporting the mast, remove all 11 pins that connect the
shrouds to the chain plates. (the aft stays may or may not need the
turnbuckles loosened.

Raise the mast a few inches, separate the mast lighting connector, VHF radio
antenna cable and you're free to go.

The process is reversed to put the mast back up. It usually doesn't take
much more than a half hour to unstep or step the mast.

It'll give you an opportunity to carefully inspect all the fittings, wax the
mast, clean and test all the lighting fixtures, install spreader flag
halyards, etc..

With the mast off the boat, you can use a engine jump-start pack or spare
12v battery to test the lighting circuits.

along similar lines, how does one add a wind intrument (or replace an
existing one) without unstepping the mast?
